Funding for a Florida freeze-response project
USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, NIFA, announced on 16 September 2026 that it had awarded more than $265,000 for a University of Florida project addressing a freeze event in Florida. The award comes through the Rapid Response to Weather Events Across Food and Agriculture Systems programme.
Applied research and Extension
NIFA describes applied research and Extension work as ways to alleviate the impacts of weather events and disasters across food and agricultural systems. The weather-response programme is funded through the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative.
The programme aims to deploy strategies rapidly and fill knowledge and information gaps to protect food and agricultural supply chains, from production through consumption, during and after weather events and disasters.
