Permissions checked for each publication

Our working source pool contains individually reviewed publications. We verify the permission to publish, adapt and translate the text before including it. A publisher’s name or an open-access label alone does not establish those rights.

Government and institutional material

We review agency-authored material from USDA and FDA alongside UK, European, Australian and New Zealand institutions. A public-domain or open-licence policy applies only within its stated scope; third-party material and images are checked separately.

Open research, with its conditions

For CC BY 4.0 research, we inspect the license in the full publication and retain the required author and journal credit, license link and notice of adaptation or translation. A discovery service’s metadata terms do not license the underlying paper.

Company newsrooms

We follow food, ingredient, equipment and technology companies. Their announcements are company statements. Publication, editing and translation permissions must be established before adapting a release; access to a newsroom alone provides no such permission.

No automatic image reuse

We use original illustrations and images with separately recorded permissions. Article text rights are not image rights.
