Funding for plant physiology
USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, NIFA, announced on 23 September 2026 that it had awarded $7.5 million to support 14 projects advancing research to improve plant production.
The Physiology of Agricultural Plants Program supports better understanding of factors affecting agricultural plants, including nutritional quality, efficient use of water and nutrients, and tolerance to abiotic stresses. Research addresses these needs at molecular, cellular, biochemical and whole-organism levels.
Eleven recipient institutions
South Dakota State University, the University of Massachusetts and Washington State University are each listed with two awards. The other recipients are Michigan Technological University, Oregon State University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of California, the University of Florida, the University of Hawaii, the University of Missouri and the University of North Texas.
