Ten research awards and one workshop
USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture announced on 7 October 2026 that it had awarded a total of $6.2 million to support 11 projects through the Biotechnology Risk Assessment Grants programme. This year’s support comprised ten research awards and one workshop award.
The projects focus on developing new information to help federal regulatory agencies make evidence-based decisions about the effects of genetically engineered organisms in the environment. NIFA says the programme supports investigations of managed and natural environments across a broad range of organisms.
Joint administration and funding
The programme is co-administered by USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and jointly funded by USDA-NIFA and USDA-ARS.
The announcement’s 2026 awardee list names Infinite Eversole Specialty Crop Services, Texas A&M University, the University of Arizona, the University of California, the University of Delaware, the University of Georgia, the University of Idaho, the University of Minnesota, the University of Tennessee and Washington State University. The University of Georgia is listed with two awards.
